I have fond memories of the shoot for this months’ cover. Photographer Steve Sandford and I went to a bodybuilding gym photographed one of their up-and-comers. The sack of toys is real but I think everything else was photoshopped.

First issue of the year and we’re off to a flying start. When we published this we thought it was pretty funny to put a monkey with a grape on its nose on the cover. At 17 years distant people would probably see it as pretty cruel and tell us that orangutans are apes, not monkeys.
If anyone is following along with these posts you’ll notice that we skip much of 2006. Everything from March to August is missing. Don’t ask me why, the layout folders that we sent to the printers are very well organized, they’re just missing most of 2006.
Ahhh, nothing like a good coup to keep things interesting. They had it on deadline night, so we had to change the cover and rush out a story. Fun times, I must write it up as a story one day. Those of you with good eyesight will notice that the masthead is a bit grainy on this one, as it the cover, which is a shame as I shot it.
